I can obtain images from a wide range of sources and am happy to work either from lists of preferred suppliers or independently. I can work within tight budgets and schedules whilst not compromising image quality.

From 06/09 to 09/09: Content Project Editor, Cengage Learning, Andover
I handled all pre-press tasks from design to final files for titles including both print and website product. When I left the company I was asked to continue working on a freelance basis copyediting a solely website-based catering course.

From 08/05 to 01/09: Consultant, Publishing Services Department, Palgrave Macmillan, Basingstoke
I ran a project to set up a digital workflow for the Scholarly and Reference and College Publishing divisions which together produce 600 titles per year. My role was to specify a workflow whereby authors could deliver online and the whole editing and proofing process could be done online including final files being sent to the printer. The project involved liaising with a wide range of staff and suppliers in the UK and overseas; setting up and running training and information sessions for commissioning editors, publishing services staff and freelance suppliers; running regular review meetings; and ensuring that all aspects of the project were followed through.
As a result of the success of this project I was asked to give a presentation on change management to Macmillan’s IT management team. I was also asked to give a presentation to MA Publishing students at the London College of Communication.

From 12/02 to 10/03: Maternity cover for Senior Production Controller, Palgrave Macmillan, Basingstoke
I was responsible for the production of the further education languages list including audio materials and packaging and for the major reference list including The Grants Register.

From 12/02 to 10/03: Macmillan Education Ltd, Oxford
I worked on a contract basis setting up a photographic archive for the African Publishing Group.

From 06/96 to 10/00: Publishing Services Manager, Academic Division, Macmillan Press Ltd, Basingstoke
I managed a team of 6 in-house staff and 12 freelance copyeditors handling 400 titles per year from copyediting, typesetting and proofreading to producing final print and web files, including text and cover design. I was a member of the 3-person project team responsible for designing and setting up the Macmillan Online Library – Economics to enhance the company’s web presence.
During this time I attended Macmillan’s management training course and participated in the company’s mentoring scheme.

From 10/95 to 06/96: Production Manager, Radcliffe Medical Press, Abingdon
I was responsible for a varied list of monochrome and colour medical titles including producing publicity materials.

From 04/94 to 10/95: Production Controller, Heinemann Educational Books, Oxford
Responsible for the secondary geography, science, business studies and primary library reference titles including setting and maintaining schedules; producing costings; and liaising with design and editorial departments and printers in the UK, Europe and the Far East. I travelled to Spain to visit print suppliers during this time.

From 04/90 to 04/94: Production Controller/Senior Production Controller, Macmillan Press Ltd, Basingstoke
I handled the production of a variety of lists during this time including 4-colour school textbooks, two major directories, high level science books, academic monographs and finally the further education publishing list which included colour and monochrome titles, and a languages list including audio cassettes, cds and their associated packaging.
In 1994 I was awarded a Major Scholarship Award from the Stationers’ and Newspaper Makers’ Company to travel to the USA to research new electronic production opportunities.
